Many resident and migratory bird species can be spotted in and around Willits. Excellent birding opportunities abound in Little Lake Valley, on area hiking trails, and in nearby recreational areas. Birding is in fact so popular that Mendocino County is home to two chapters of the National Audubon Society. The Peregrine chapter serves inland Mendocino County and offers regular meetings, programs and field trips.
