Deanna California aka “Bunny”
If you ever put a tip in her basket, Deanne California, aka Bunny, wants to say “thank you”.
Percussionist and second singer for the longstanding Willits Farmer’s Market Band, Deanne California, aka Bunny, is also a prolific songwriter and cover artist. Her main instrument, the keyboard, brings a unique sound that intertwines with a dynamic vocal.
Her live piano and vocal sets span melancholy goth-infused pop, jazz, rhythmic stompers, happy standards, and soul-stirring siren wails.
Her cross-generational appeal stems from being deeply emotional. “If you leave my show and go and hug a tree, I’d like that. Nature is a reoccurring theme in my work. I think people across the political spectrum can appreciate it and find peace in nature. We have to protect it.”
Playing live for many years in the Santa Barbara area and honing her chops in venues as diverse as packed underground warehouses, mansions, beachfront wineries, and the regal Lobero Theatre, she has traveled extensively. Overcoming adversity, she eventually surrendered to the artistic currents drawing her back to music.
“There’s something darkly quirky about my original songs. Maybe it’s an anachronism, but I like the craft of songwriting. Real songwriting that brings people hope, strength, and joy.”
